Windows to the Universe Contributing Partnerships for Education and Outreach
Windows to the Universe Contributing Partnerships are designed to provide individual scientists an effective and efficient E/PO approach for their research program. Options include Ask-a-Scientist, Postcards from the Field, and Content Development, and include training, support, review, editing, translation, and coordination. Ask-A-Scientist - Contributing Partner Scientist/Educator responds to questions from website users. Fee includes all Windows to the Universe costs associated with supporting the Contributing Partner in the Windows to the Universe system, including training, website support, coordination and scientist biography.
- Year 1 - $2300
- Year 2 (and thereafter) - $1700 per year
Postcards from the Field Contributor - Contributing Partner Scientist/Educator submits "postcards" while on research expeditions or during other research activity. Fee includes all Windows to the Universe costs associated with supporting the Contributing Partner in the Windows to the Universe system, including training, website support, editing, review, addition of links, translation, creation of graphics header for campaign, coordination, scientist/educator's biography and campaign introduction page with links to related content on the website. Assumes 20 postcards.
- Year 1 - $4300
- Year 2 (and thereafter) - $4000 per year
Content Developer on Windows to the Universe
- Without levelizing support* - Contributing Partners Scientist/Educator develops new content and/or updates existing content on the website using website content management system and templates. Fee includes all Windows to the Universe costs associated with supporting the Contributing Partner in the Windows to the Universe system, including training, website support, review, editing, addition of links if needed, translation, coordination, scientist's biography. Up to 10 pages per year. Scientist creates three levels of content per page.
- Year 1 - $7800
- Year 2 (and thereafter) - $7000 per year
- With levelizing support* - Contributing Partners Scientist/Educator develops new content and/or updates existing content on the website using website content management system and templates. Fee includes all Windows to the Universe costs associated with supporting the Contributing Partner in the Windows to the Universe system, including training, website support, review, editing, levelizing, addition of links if needed, translation, coordination, scientist's biography. Up to 10 pages per year. Levelizing support provided - NESTA develops beginner and intermediate content based on scientist/educator's submission at advanced level.
- Year 1 - $8800
- Year 2 (and thereafter) - $8000 per year
All Contributing Partner activities include use of Windows to the Universe content management system which provides opportunities to track use of pages created by the scientist on the website.
Fees shown includes all costs for supporting the Contributing Partner's effort at NESTA and through Windows to the Universe, but does not include support for scientist/educator's efforts. Fees are paid to NESTA in advance, on a yearly basis, by the scientist/educator or their institution, and may be included in grant proposals as a "purchased service". NESTA staff will assist scientists developing proposals that include Contributing Partnership collaboration with their proposals and provide a letter of support for their proposal.
*Levelizing refers to writing content originally written by the developer at a higher level at two lower levels - beginner (upper elementary) and intermediate (middle school), with the assumption that the developer writes the advanced level content (~ high school).
