All warm objects radiate in the infrared. The warmer the object, the higher the frequency and intensity of the radiation. Very hot objects give off other types of radiation in addition to infrared.
Click on the picture to see the infrared image of a real tea kettle boiling on the stove. Remember the white parts of the tea kettle are the hottest. You will see that the lid is much hotter than the walls of the tea kettle. The handle has been insulated and therefore is much cooler. You can pick up the tea kettle and pour the hot water without burning your hands.
