Exploratour - Does Europa have an Ocean?
The figure to the left shows the lithosphere underneath the Earth's crust. Rising material from the deep interior of the Earth can push the lithosphere aside and it slides horizontally along the surface, carrying the crust, on which the continents are found, with it. If we use this picture to imagine what Europa might be like, the red portion shown in this picture, which on Earth is made of rocky material of a plastic consistency, would be water, and the blue portion would be ice.
