Exploratour - The Surface of Mars
Geography of Mars
Now we are looking at a different sort of map of the surface of Mars. As we showed before, the surface of Mars can be broken into two main areas: highlands and lowlands. This map shows where some of our spacecraft have landed.
The highlands are at the bottom of the picture, and the lowlands are at the top of the picture. As we'll see later, there is a really big difference in height between these two areas of Mars.
There is also a difference between the amount of craters which can be found in these two regions. The highlands have many craters. This region of Mars looks like the Moon. The lowlands also have craters, but not as many as the highlands.
