ExploraTour: A Peek into the Lives of the Stars
Where are the White Dwarfs?
A group of very hot former stars called white dwarfs fall across the bottom of the HR diagram. White dwarfs are the hot centers of stars that have blown off their outer layers.
Their temperatures are very high, but surprisingly, their brightness is very low (They are some of the dimmest objects on the HR diagram).
The only way this can happen is if they are also very small. These bizarre objects can be as small or smaller than the Earth!
