ExploraTour: A Peek into the Lives of the Stars
Searching for White Dwarfs.
The faint dots circled in the image on the left are white dwarfs. White dwarfs are all that is left after stars the size of our sun burn out. The brighter dots in the picture are yellow stars (much like the sun) and cool red stars.
This image was taken by a very powerful telescope called the Hubble Space Telescope.
If you click on the small picture here, you will see a much bigger picture of the space surrounding the white dwarf stars. In this part of outer space, scientists think there are some 40,000 white dwarfs.
