NASA to Replace Hubble Telescope Instrument - Just BeCOS...
News story originally written on August 18, 1997
Well not exactly just because. NASA will include the COS instrument on the Hubble Space Telescope because it will help astronomers study how
stars were formed billions of years ago. It will also help astronomers find out how the first elements were formed. COS stands for Cosmic Origins Spectrograph.
The COS instrument will be put on the Hubble telescope in 2002. The cost of the COS instrument is $25 million.
The Hubble Space Telescope is a reflecting telescope. It is still making observations while orbiting around Earth.
