Visitors Bring a New Piece to the ISS!
News story originally written on October 23, 2002
The three people who live on the International Space Station (ISS) have been alone in space since June, so they were excited when the space shuttle Atlantis and its crew of six came to visit last week. Together they started a construction project at the space station that will eventually be a big new laboratory.
They added a giant new piece onto the space station during three space walks. After more construction projects like this one the space station will have new laboratories for more science experiments. The next piece will be added in November when the space shuttle Endeavour visits the ISS.
The space shuttle Atlantis returned to Earth on Friday October 18, 2002 after its 4.5 million-mile trip.
