NASA Can't Keep Tight Schedule
News story originally written on August 25, 1999
Trouble aboard the Space Shuttle Columbia made NASA delay the next three launches. A bad wire caused two engine computers to fail just before Columbia's launch on July 23, 1999. When scientists found a second bad wire, it forced them to look at the other three shuttles.
One of the launches hurt by the delay is a radar-mapping mission planned for September. The Discovery was supposed to send a crew to fix the Hubble Space Telescope, and a space station mission was set for December. All three will be given a new launch date soon.
