Wolf Makes His Home on Mir

Astronaut David Wolf claimed his room aboard the space station Mir yesterday. A decompression chamber will act as his bedroom for his four month stay. "Talk about a room with a view," he gushed, referring to his new bedroom. "There's a window in all four quadrants. That alone should make people want to do this. It's unbelievable."
Michael Foale relinquished his post while Atlantis was docked with Mir on Saturday. He will return to Florida on the shuttle Atlantis on October 5, 1997. After a turbulent four month stay on Mir, Foale is eager to return home. "It's a great pleasure to be treading on U.S. metal again if not soil," Foale told Mission Control Houston on Sunday.
Wolf, at age 41, has become the sixth American to live on Mir. During his stay he will run experiments that will lay a foundation for the International Space Station.
