On September 19, 1997 the Mars Global Surveyor took three photographs of the Labyrinthus Noctis, a canyon west of Valles Marineris. Image A is a portion of the USGS Mars Digital Image Mosaic and shows an area of 175 kilometers (109 miles) square. Image B and C represent the same area distorted as a result of the speed and rotation of the spacecraft.
