NCAR trailers arrive!
There are a lot of happy (and busy) scientists at T1 today. The 3 NCAR seatainers arrived lastnight around 9 PM. Today everyone is busy getting the remaining instruments setup and running as soon as possible. In this photo you can see that the T1 scientific trailer parking lot is finally full.
You can also see some of the brown haze in the boundary layer. The brown color is from a combination of dust and NO2 (nitrogen dioxide). NO (nitric oxide) and NO2 come from combustion and there are many combustion sources here in the Mexico City basin, including: automobiles, power plants, oil refineries, trash burning, etc.
It is also quite dry and dusty here, so when it gets windy, we get a lot of dust in the air. The dust gets everywhere and covers everything. We are all coughing a bit around here.
We are looking forward to having everyone up and running soon. And in future posts I will talk about some of the instruments and people here and some of our initial results.
Take care. Barry
