The North Pole of the Moon is at the lower right in this photograph. The Galileo spacecraft took the image as it passed Earth and the Moon on the way to Jupiter in December of 1992. In the upper left are the lava plains of Mare Imbrium. The photograph was taken from 121,000 kilometers (75,000 miles) away through a violet filter.
