Alan Bean
Alan Bean was an American astronaut who was born on March 15, 1932 in Texas.
Before he became an astronaut, Bean was a Navy pilot. He flew over 5500 hours
in 27 different aircraft.
Bean became an astronaut in 1963. He has made two space flights and has logged
over 1672 hours in space.
In 1969, Bean became the fourth person to walk on the moon during the Apollo 12
mission. He and Charles Conrad made two lunar walks. In 1973, Bean flew aboard
Skylab 3. For 59 days, the crew performed several experiments.
Bean left NASA in 1981. He has since become a painter and writes children's
books.
