David Leestma
David Leestma is an American astronaut who was born on May 6, 1949, in
Michigan.
Before he became an astronaut, Leestma was a Navy test pilot. He has
flown over 3000 hours on aircraft.
Leestma became an astronaut in 1980. He has spent over 533 hours in
space on three spaceflights.
Leestma made his first spaceflight aboard Mission 41-G in 1984. The crew
spent eight days studying the Earth. In 1989, he flew aboard a
Department of Defense mission. Leestma made his last flight aboard
Spacelab ATLAS in 1992. The crew studied the Earth's atmosphere.
