Robert Overmyer
Robert Overmyer was an American astronaut who was born on July 14, 1936,
in Ohio.
Before he became an astronaut, Overmyer was a Marine fighter pilot. He
logged over 7500 hours of flight time.
Overmyer became an astronaut in 1973. He has spent over 290 hours in
space on two spaceflights.
Overmyer made his first spaceflight in 1982 aboard STS-5. This was the
first operational flight of the Space Shuttle. In 1985, he commanded
Spacelab 3. The crew spent seven days studying medicine.
Overmyer left NASA in 1986. He currently works for McDonnell Douglas.
