Hello there everyone! My name is Carlye Calvin and I am the staff photographer for the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) in Boulder, Colorado. I have worked at UCAR/NCAR for 21 years, starting out as a dark room technician for the High Altitude Observatory (HAO) and eventually became the staff photographer for all of UCAR/NCAR. I have a really fun job! I photograph scientists doing their research, cool clouds, severe weather (I love going storm chasing!), and field projects in far away places.
I graduated from the University of Colorado with a double major in fine art and biology. I wanted to find a job that combined my love of art and science, so my first job was doing photography for a high school biology textbook company, and now here I am doing photography of science for NCAR.
I live up in the mountains in Nederland, Colorado with my husband, and we raised our two boys there. Our oldest son also works at NCAR and our youngest son is currently attending the University of Colorado.
I am going to VOCALS in Chile to document the field project with both still images and video. I hope you enjoy seeing some of my photos from Chile.
