Taking care of the collected cloudwater
Hi there,
This picture shows Katie working on the collected cloudwater.
Basically, she is transferring the collected cloudwater into several small vials for chemical analysis back at Colorado State University (CSU). Some of chemical species we are looking for are not stable. Katie is adding several different preserved solutions into each vial that contains a certain amount of collected cloudwater.
Back at CSU we will analyze hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), dissolved sulfur dioxide (S(IV)), and iron and manganese (Fe and Mn) to help us better understand sulfate formation by several oxidation pathways of gaseous sulfates in the clouds. For the chemical analysis, we are using
Ion Chromatograph, Total Organic Carbon Analyzer, and Spectrophotometer/Fluorescence photometer.
