NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO) satellite captures much higher resolution images than prior orbiting solar observatories. This graphic compares (left to right) the resolution of: a traditional standard definition TV picture; an image from the NASA/ESA Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO); a High Definition TV picture; an image from one of NASA's twin Solar TErrestrial RElations Observatory (STEREO) satellites; and an image from SDO. SDO images have 10 times better resolution than a High Definition TV!
