The Grand Canyon represents one of the most awe-inspiring landscapes in the United States. At the deepest parts of the canyon, nearly two-billion-year-old metamorphic rock is exposed. The Colorado River has cut through layers of colorful sedimentary rocks as the Colorado Plateau has uplifted.
