Shuttle-Mir Program Comes to a Close

Commander Precourt and Pilot Gorie brought the shuttle Discovery in for a perfect landing yesterday. Discover touched down at 1:00 p.m. CDT on June 12, 1998. This ends the 11-day mission which included a 4-day docking with the space station Mir.
While docked with the space station, Andy Thomas came onboard the shuttle for his ride home to Earth after spending four and a half months on Mir.
Yesterday's landing is the end of an 812-day continuous U.S. presence in space! There are no future plans for U.S. involvement with the Russian space station, so Discovery's landing is the official close to the Shuttle-Mir program.
