The Ten Chinese Suns
According to ancient Chinese mythology, there existed ten suns that used to
appear in turn in the sky during the Chinese ten-day week. After many years, the ten suns decided to appear all together. This made it too hot for
life on Earth.
Di Jun, the ten suns' father, sent an archer armed with a magic bow and arrows to frighten the suns. However, Yi shot nine of them with his arrows, leaving only the Sun we see today.
Di Jun was so angry for the death of nine of his children that he banished Yi from the heavens. Since then, Yi lived as an ordinary mortal in the earth.
