Charles Darwin
Charles Darwin was an English Naturalist who lived between 1809-1882. In 1859, with the publication of The Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, he challenged existing views on the appearance of life on Earth.
Darwin developed and gathered evidence for his theory of evolution over a period of 30 years, beginning with his five-year expedition to South America aboard the H.M.S. Beagle. His theory states that life on Earth is constantly changing and only the fittest organisms are able to reproduce successfully and survive.
Darwin's radical ideas caused a scientific revolution and laid the foundations for the modern science of biology.
