Professional Development Workshops Offered by NESTA Through Windows to the Universe

Professional Development at NSTA and other conference venues

The National Earth Science Teachers Association offers dozens of teacher professional development workshops on topics in Earth and space science at multiple venues each year through the Windows to the Universe project.  Our highly rated workshops, which emphasize effective and engaging hands-on activities and development of conceptual knowledge primarily for the middle and high school levels, are regularly offered at National Science Teachers Association conferences and other venues.  NESTA is continuing to offer our free professional development workshops at NSTA conferences, and you are welcome to join us at these 1-hr workshops and occasional short courses. Our current schedule of professional development workshops is available here.

On-Site Professional Development

For organizations interested in a more intensive professional development workshop experience for your staff, we are now offering on-site professional development workshop opportunities at your school, school district, intermediate school district, community organization, or company.  These workshops include presentations by our dynamic presenters, a workshop guide with all required printed materials, as well as hands-on materials for the activities that are included in the workshop.

Our regular professional development workshops are offered on the following topics:

  • Earth System Science
  • Climate Change
  • Ecosystem Science
  • Space weather
  • Atmospheric Science
  • Geology
  • Igniting Curiosity
  • Humans and the Environment
  • Global Change

The table below provides a rate schedule for a one-day workshop based on our existing set of high-impact classroom activities and web-based resources.  Rates depend on the number of participants, and include staff time, shipping, and materials for participants, but do not include travel costs, which will be billed separately.  Each workshop will include connections between the resources and activities presented and your curriculum standards.

Number of Participants Fee per participant
20 - 29 $300
30 - 49 $225
50 - 69 $210

Because our schedules fill up quickly, please be in touch about workshops with at least six months advance notice, if possible.  We will do our best to accommodate you.  Rates for workshops on other geoscience topics, for workshops offered outside of the US, for a smaller or larger number of participants, or for multiple days are available on request.

Please complete our Professional Development Workshop Request form, providing your contact information and information about what you are looking for in the workshop.  We will get back to you within 5 business days to follow up on your request.  Alternatively, please contact the NESTA office at 720-328-5351 and we will be happy to discuss your staff workshop needs.
