Sin
Sin was the Sumerian Moon god. Sumerians were living more than three thousand years ago in Mesopotamia. He was worshipped in the city of Ur. The high priest of his temple, chosen from the royal family, was viewed as Sin's spouse. His parents were the air god
Enlil and the grain goddess Ninlil.
The Moon god had several different names that referred to different phases of the Moon. Sin was born in the underworld where his father had been banished by the assembly of the gods. For this reason, Sumerians believed that an eclipse of the Moon was the result of the attack of demons against the Moon.
